IFEX INTERNET SERVICE TO HIGHLIGHT WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY

To mark World Press Freedom Day on 3 May, a web page will be launched in mid-April on the International Freedom of Expression eXchange (IFEX) Internet Service. The page will feature links to other websites, news about events being held around the world and reports being issued by members of IFEX and the freedom of expression community at large. World Press Freedom Day is celebrated on 3 May each year to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Windhoek, a statement advocating a free, independent and pluralistic media. It was endorsed by journalists at a regional conference in Windhoek, Namibia organised in 1991 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). To mark this day, the IFEX Clearing House will also publish a special issue of the IFEX "Communique".
