MEDIA GET BOOST FROM PINA
News media organisations in East Timor are getting a boost from the Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) â free associate membership and access to training programmes, reports PINA. At its recent convention in Madang, Papua New Guinea, PINA heard an address by radio editor Fausto de Sousa, representing the Timor Loresae Journalists Association. He expressed the need to strengthen connections with the Pacific Islands. PINA members will consider granting membership to East Timor organisations when such a request is made. Normally, full memberships are only open to organisations which are based in Pacific Islands countries or territories.
PINA has already been active in assisting East Timorese media this year. PINA administrator Nina Ratulele was invited to assist the first journalists' conference in Dili, East Timor earlier this year, while plans are being made to send East Timorese to Divine Word University in Madang, Papua New Guinea to study journalism.
