IPI LAUNCHES WEBSITE FOR 2003 CONGRESS

Press freedom in Africa and African visions of the Information Society will be among the highlights on the International Press Institute's (IPI) agenda when it holds its 2003 Congress in Nairobi, Kenya, from 31 May to 4 June.

The organisation has just launched a website for the conference (www.ipikenya.com) displaying information for delegates and a provisional programme.

Panel discussion topics will include an overview of challenges facing press freedom in Africa; local and Western media representations of Africa; the role of civil society in the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) initiative; and how Africa should take advantage of new information technologies.

Invited speakers include Nobel Prize-winning author Wole Soyinka and Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki.
