IREX Launches Media Survey of Europe, Central Asia

The International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) has just published its latest survey of the state of independent media in southeast Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia.

The 2002 Media Sustainability Index provides country-by-country analyses of media development in 20 countries, using indicators such as freedom of expression, media pluralism, professional journalism standards, the financial stability of private media and the effectiveness of institutions supporting independent media. The survey also compares trends from its first survey, completed in 2001.
