MARIA MOORS CABOT PRIZE


Journalists from the Americas are invited to apply for the 2004 Maria Moors Cabot Prizes, which honour excellence in regional reporting and commitment to press freedom.

Administered by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, the prizes are the oldest international journalism awards.

The jury seeks to recognise senior journalists whose coverage of the Americas has contributed to inter-American understanding over the course of a long and distinguished career. Journalists who have taken an active role in defending press freedom in the Americas are also considered.

Nomination forms are available at: http://www.jrn.columbia.edu/events/cabot/.

They must be signed by the person submitting the nomination. Letters from third parties that explain why the nominee is especially deserving of the prize are also welcome.

Eligible nominees include journalists or news executives who work for any news organisation in the Western Hemisphere; a press associations, news services or syndicates serving such organisations; freelance journalists with a long record of reporting on the Americas; and all media, including Internet publications.
The deadline for submissions is 1 April 2004.
