IAPA INVITES NOMINATIONS FOR 2004 GRAND PRIZE FOR PRESS FREEDOM

Newspapers and news agencies from the western Hemisphere are invited to submit nominations for the 2004 IAPA Grand Prize for Press Freedom.

Administered by the Inter American Press Association (IAPA), the prize recognises one or more individuals in the Americas for "outstanding work in defence of freedom of the press." It carries a cash award of US$2,000 and a plaque that will be presented to the winner at IAPA's annual congress in Antigua, Guatemala in October.

Previous award winners include Mexican journalist Jésus Blancornelas, Cuba's independent press and Venezuela's private media.
