OURMedia Conference to Focus on Community Media


OURMedia (NuestrosMedios), a global network of media activists that supports information and communication technologies (ICT) initiatives in more than 40 countries, is holding an international conference in Porto Alegre, Brazil, from 22 to 25 July 2004.

"Building Communication Societies" will examine a range of issues, including the successes and failures of participatory forms of media and collaborative links between community media and universities. Workshops will examine community-based usage of video and new media technologies.

The conference will include field trips to local grassroots media and ICT projects and participation in a "polymedia lab," a multimedia space for collaboration, skills exchange and experimentation.
