HIV/AIDS RED RIBBON MEDIA AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM


Journalists from East and Southern Africa are invited to apply for the 2004 HIV/AIDS Red Ribbon Media Award for Excellence in Journalism. Established by UNESCO in 2002, the award is aimed at
improving media coverage and public awareness of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the region.
Six awards will be handed out in three categories: radio, television and print/online. Winners will receive a cash prize and a certificate at a ceremony in Nairobi, Kenya, in November 2004.

The competition is open to journalists from Burundi, Rwanda, Comoros, Seychelles, Eritrea, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Mauritius, Zambia, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

Applications should include samples of the journalist's work. Only work published or broadcast in local or regional media outlets between 16 November 2003 and 29 October 2004 is accepted.

The closing date for entries is 29 October 2004.
