Free Expression Seminars Offered for Bolivian, Ecuadorian Journalists

9 November 2004

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is organising free seminars in Bolivia and Ecuador in December to educate journalists about the right to freedom of expression and to equip them with tools to do effective investigative reporting.

Respected reporters and media experts, including Panamanian lawyer and journalist Miguel Antonio Bernal and Pedro Enrique Armendares of Mexico's Periodistas de Investigación, will lead the seminars. Participants will examine and discuss case studies.

In each country, ICFJ offers six scholarships that cover travel and lodging expenses for journalists from areas outside Quito and Santa Cruz. The application deadline is 1 December.

The seminar in Ecuador will be held from 8 to 10 December in Quito, in partnership with Centro
Internacional De Estudios Superiores de Comunicación (CIESPAL).
The seminar in Bolivia will be held in Santa Cruz from 12 to 14 December 2004 in collaboration with the Federación Sindical de Trabajadores de la Prensa de Santa Cruz (FSTPSC).
