ELIZABETH NEUFFER FELLOWSHIP

The International Women's Media Foundation has launched a new journalism fellowship to support women who report on human rights and social justice. Named in honour of the "Boston Globe" reporter killed in May 2003 while covering the war in Iraq, the Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship provides one year of academic research at leading Boston-area universities and reporting opportunities at the "New York Times" and "Boston Globe."

The fellowship is open to women journalists working in print, broadcast or on the Internet, who focus on human rights and social justice.

A successful applicant must demonstrate a career dedication to journalism and show a strong commitment to sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues upon the completion of the fellowship. Excellent written and spoken English skills are required. The fellowship runs from September 2005 to May 2006. Expenses, including air fare and housing, are covered.

The fellow will be able to design a programme that combines academic research with practical experience covering human rights. She will also have a key role in the Elizabeth Neuffer Forum on Human Rights and Journalism, an annual programme held in May.

The deadline for applications is 25 February 2005. The winner will be announced in May 2005.
