OXFORD OFFERS TRAINING COURSE IN MEDIA LAW ADVOCACY

Oxford University's Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy (PCMLP) is offering an intensive three-week training course in July 2005, aimed at giving lawyers more skills for doing legal advocacy in the area of media and freedom of expression.

The Media Law Advocates Training Programme is designed for lawyers from Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Latin America or Africa, who have a strong commitment to media freedom and have some working experience in the field of media law and advocacy.

The course will be held at the University from 10 to 29 July 2005. Several organisations, including the Open Society Institute Justice Initiative, are partners in the course, which is in its fourth year.

Applicants must have a law degree and be eligible to practice law in their home countries. Priority will be given to those who have hands-on experience in day-to-day litigation, law reform or free expression campaigning. Applications will be judged based on each applicant's potential to contribute to the development of media defence litigation and legislative drafting.

Applications can only be filled out on the PCMLP website and will be available in early 2005.
