IWPR Launches Handbook on Crisis Reporting
In societies undergoing major crisis and change, journalists play an important role in reporting the news and informing the public. If done professionally and responsibly, their reports can hold government leaders accountable, help communities mend conflicts and foster democratic debate.
To encourage such journalism, the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) has published a new handbook designed to help reporters contribute to positive change in newly developing societies.
"Reporting for Change: A Handbook for Local Journalists in Crisis Areas" provides guidance on basic reporting techniques, internationally recogised standards for journalism and advice on issues such as libel, and safety and security in conflict zones. The handbook, currently available in English only, contains exercises, discussion sections and resources for further reading.
