AMARC PARTICIPATES IN 5TH WORLD SOCIAL FORUM

The World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) will be playing an active role in the Fifth World Social Forum, which will bring together thousands of civil society activists to Porto Alegre, Brazil to discuss alternatives to corporate globalisation.

The IFEX member will be sending more than 50 radio journalists to cover the forum in collaboration with Inter Press Service (IPS) and the Latin American Association of Radio Education. The World Social Forum will be held 26-31 January 2005.

AMARC journalists will deliver live broadcasts from the Forum, which are accessible at: http://www.amarc.org/wsf

AMARC will also host a series of debates on the role of community media and civil society in protecting cultural diversity, empowering women and expanding access to information, and a forum on 25 January where journalists and civil society activists can discuss the situation of information and communication in the world.
