RSF SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR BEST FREE EXPRESSION BLOG
Reporters Without Borders (Reporters sans frontières, RSF) is seeking nominations from Internet users for a new prize honouring blogs that challenge censorship in countries where traditional media are under state control.
Known as personal websites or regularly updated online diaries, blogs are an increasingly popular way of providing independent news and information on the Internet.
RSF will compile a shortlist of nominated blogs, from which Internet users will vote for the best entry.
Blogs in any language are eligible for the competition. However, only blogs maintained by an individual or a small group of individuals can be nominated (they cannot belong to a governmental or non-governmental organisation).
They must be updated regularly and use a specialised publishing tool such as typepad, blogger, blogspirit or an equivalent. Sites that do not use a standard online publishing tool but function in an identical manner to a blog will be considered on a case by case basis. Blogs belonging to professional journalists are eligible.
Nominations should be sent by e-mail to: internet@rsf.org. They should include the url or the addresses of the blog and a short description of each blog. The blogger does not have to be identified.
