ICFJ to Hold Press Freedom Workshops in Guatemala, Costa Rica

1 February 2005

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) invites journalists, editors and trainers in Guatemala and Costa Rica to apply for scholarships to participate in upcoming workshops on press freedom.

ICFJ is offering scholarships to eight rural journalists from each country. Scholarship funds cover transportation and lodging costs. The workshops are designed to equip local journalists with investigative skills to cover press freedom issues. The aim is to "foster greater public discussion on press freedom."

Workshops will be held in Guatemala City (9-11 March 2005) and San Jose (13-15 March). Sessions will be interactive and will feature discussions with Latin American and U.S. experts, debates with mediators and case study analyses. The Robert R. McCormick Tribune Foundation is sponsoring both seminars.

The deadline for applications is 23 February 2005.
