KURT SCHORK AWARDS IN INTERNATIONAL JOURNALISM
The Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism seeks applications for the 2005 Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism, which honour outstanding reporting that sheds new light on controversial issues.
Two prizes, worthUS$5,000 each, will be awarded - one to a journalist in a developing country and another to a freelance reporter covering international news. Applicants should submit work focusing on conflict, human rights, cross-border issues or any other controversial issues in a particular country or region.
The Kurt Schork awards are named in honour of the American freelance journalist who was killed in May 2000 while on assignment for Reuters in Sierra Leone. The awards are underwritten by the Kurt Schork Memorial Fund and Reuters, and administered by the graduate school.
The deadline for applications is 1 May 2005.
