MILENA JESENSKÁ FELLOWSHIPS FOR JOURNALISTS

The Vienna-based Institute for Human Sciences (Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen, IWM) and the European Cultural Foundation invite European journalists working in print, broadcasting or the Internet to apply for the Milena Jesenská Fellowship programme.

The programme provides journalists with an academic base and financial support to pursue in-depth research on a topic of their choice for three months. The theme of the 2005/2006 fellowship is cultural issues, with the term 'cultural' interpreted in a broad sense to encompass a wide variety of artistic and intellectual fields.

Milena Jesenská Fellows are given a stipend of 7,630 Euros (US$10,000), an office space and computer access, and access to IWM's research facilities. Travel grants of up to 1,820 Euros (US$2,405) will be available for research visits to neighbouring countries.

Candidates must have several years of experience in professional journalism. Their work may deal with any topic related to European cultural issues, especially integration. Fellowships are not intended for entry-level journalists or students.

The deadline for applications is 25 March 2005.
