LIBRARIANS' CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS CENSORSHIP

The International Federation of Library Associations' Committee on Free Access to Information and Freedom of Expression (IFLA/FAIFE) will discuss the role of libraries in documenting censorship in Russia, South Africa and the Arab world as part of a conference that will be held in Oslo, Norway on 11-12 August 2005.

"Documenting Censorship - Libraries Linking Past and Present, and Preparing for the Future" is being billed as a "satellite meeting" that will be held prior to IFLA's World Library and Information Congress, which meets 14-18 August.

Organised in partnership with the Beacon for Freedom of Expression, the conference will feature case studies about libraries in Russia, South Africa and various Arab countries that have documented censorship, a debate on the right to offend and a discussion on the role of libraries in the Information Society.
