SEAPA CONFERENCE TO PROBE MEDIA'S ROLE IN TSUNAMI COVERAGE

The Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA) is co-hosting a conference in Phuket, Thailand from 28 to 29 April 2005 that will examine the media's role in covering the December 2004 tsunami disaster.

Supported by Germany's Friedrich Ebert Stiftung foundation, "In the Tsunami?s Wake: Media and the Coverage of Disasters in Asia" also aims to provide a forum for journalists in the region to share their experiences of covering disasters.

SEAPA says it hopes the conference will validate the importance of access to information in helping to lessen the impact of natural disasters and foster better governance.

The Conference will bring together resource persons from aid and disaster agencies, senior reporters, decision makers and editorial policymakers from the region.
