ICFJ TO HOLD FREE EXPRESSION WORKSHOPS IN BRAZIL, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is holding two workshops in June in Brazil and the Dominican Republic to strengthen local journalists' investigative reporting skills and raise awareness of press freedom issues.

The workshops are part of ICFJ's "Covering Freedom of Expression: Resources for Journalists," a three-year project to increase awareness of freedom of expression issues in Latin America (http://icfj.org/foe.html).

In Sao Paulo, the Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (ABRAJI) will host a workshop from 5 to 7 June 2005. ICFJ is offering six scholarships to support the participation of journalists from rural areas.

In Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra will host a workshop from 9 to 11 June. Eight scholarships are available for participants.

The deadline to apply for scholarships is 25 May 2005. The workshops are sponsored by the Robert R. McCormick Tribune Foundation.
