MISA PRESS FREEDOM AWARD


The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) invites nominations for the 2005 MISA Press Freedom Award, which honours journalistic excellence in Southern Africa. The US$1,000 award recognises an individual or media organisation that demonstrates excellence in upholding media ethics and pursuing the truth, or works to promote media reform and press freedom in the region.

The award is open to journalists and photographers working in print, online or broadcasting media, and to media organisations and associations based in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

The member states of the SADC are Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

All nominations should be accompanied by a CV of the nominee and a short essay explaining why the nominee deserves to win the award. Where applicable, a copy of the nominee's work or a portfolio of work, should be included with the nomination.
