JOURNALISM CONFERENCE TACKLES CORRUPTION IN SPORTS
More than 200 journalists, academics and sports leaders around the world will be gathering in Copenhagen from 6 to 10 November 2005 to discuss and debate controversies surrounding modern-day sports, including allegations of corruption in the International Volleyball Federation and in FIFA, the world soccer federation.
Play the Game 2005 will be a unique forum for debate about sports for journalists, academics and sports leaders. Under the theme "Governance in Sport: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly", the conference will bring up controversial issues such as doping, corruption, economic exploitation, and the political use and abuse of sport. There will be also be discussions about the role of sport in culture, health and development which mainstream media routinely ignore.
Play the Game is an independent organisation which aims to strengthen the basic ethical values of sport and encourage democracy, transparency and freedom of expression in world sport.
The conference is an attempt to ensure a free, independent, open and fact-based debate on the current situation and future development of sport. It is also an opportunity for journalists, academics and sports leaders to network across national and professional boundaries in order to meet the challenges of a globalised sports and media world.
