UNESCO SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR WORLD PRESS FREEDOM PRIZE

UNESCO invites organisations working in the field of journalism and freedom of expression to submit nominations for the 2006 UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize.

The annual award, worth US$25,000, honours a journalist or organisation that has made a notable contribution to the defence and promotion of press freedom anywhere in the world, especially if this involved risk.

Named after the former Colombian journalist who was killed in 1986 for criticising the country's powerful drug lords, the award is presented each year on 3 May, World Press Freedom Day.

The deadline for nominations is 31 October 2005. To obtain nomination forms and more information, contact: s.coudray@unesco.org
