ELIZABETH NEUFFER FELLOWSHIP

The International Women?s Media Foundation seeks applications from female journalists anywhere in the world for the Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship, which aims to promote international understanding of human rights and social justice.

The fellowship is named after the former "Boston Globe" correspondent who was killed in Iraq in May 2003.

One journalist will be selected to spend the 2006/2007 academic year at a university in the Boston area where they can pursue research on topics related to human rights. She will also have opportunities to hone her reporting skills at the "Boston Globe" and "New York Times" newspapers.

The fellow will also play a key role in the Elizabeth Neuffer Forum on Human Rights and Journalism, an event held in May 2007.

The fellowship is open to female journalists whose focus is human rights and social justice. A successful applicant will be dedicated to a career in journalism in print, broadcast or Internet media and will show a strong commitment to sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues upon completion of the fellowship.

Excellent written and spoken English skills are required. Expenses, including air fare and housing, will be covered.

Applications will be accepted until 31 March 2006. The winner will be announced in May 2006, after which the fellowship will take place from September 2006 to May 2007.
