GLOBAL EDITORS CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS MOHAMMED CARTOON CONTROVERSY
"Jyllands-Posten", the Danish newspaper that has been at the centre of a political firestorm after publishing cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed, will be discussing the controversy at a special panel session at the World Editors Forum (WEF) in Moscow in June.
A senior representative of the newspaper will be one of several panelists speaking at an event entitled "Lessons from the Mohammed cartoon clash" at the Forum. The WEF, running alongside the World Newspaper Congress, will be held from 4 to 7 June 2006.
Other panelists will include Eric Le Boucher, Editor of France's "Le Monde"; Imtiaz Alam, General Secretary of the Pakistan-based South Asian Free Media Association; and Hakeem Bello, Executive Editor of the "National Interest" in Nigeria..
The WEF and the World Newspaper Congress will bring together more than 1,500 newspaper publishers, senior executives, managing directors, chief editors and other guests from around the world to discuss the most pressing issues facing the newspaper industry. The annual conferences are organised by the World Association of Newspapers.
