AMARC ROUNDTABLE TO ASSESS COMMUNITY RADIO'S IMPACT IN ASIA-PACIFIC
The World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters' (AMARC) Asia-Pacific office will be holding a roundtable discussion in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 5 May 2006, that will bring together community radio producers and advocates, non-governmental organisations and donors to assess the social impact of community radio in the region.
"Community Radio Social Impact: Removing Barriers, Increasing Effectiveness" will focus on three key issues: the role of community radio in reducing poverty and promoting sustainable development; assessing and developing tools for measuring the impact of community radio; and evaluating AMARC's effectiveness in meeting its goals.
The roundtable is part of an evaluation AMARC is carrying out of its regional programmes around the world. It also marks World Press Freedom Day, celebrated each year on 3 May to promote the principle of press freedom and highlight the media's important role in strengthening democracy and development.
