AMARC TO HOST COMMUNITY RADIO CONFERENCE IN PERU
The World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters' regional office for Latin America and the Caribbean (AMARC-LAC) will be hosting a conference in Lima, Peru, on 24-25 May 2006, to assess the effectiveness of community radio initiatives in improving access to information and strengthening democracy.
Open to community media practitioners, civil society organisations, academics and donor agencies, the conference will review the state of community radio in the region, including challenges such as regulatory barriers.
Participants will also establish regional priorities for community radio development and propose strategic plans to help guide AMARC's activities in the next five years.
The conference is part of AMARC's world-wide evaluation of its programmes, which will culminate in a report to be presented at its 9th World Conference in Amman, Jordan in November.
