AJI HOLDS WORKSHOPS ON CONFLICT REPORTING IN INDONESIA

The Alliance of Independent Journalists (Aliansi Jurnalis Independen, AJI) in Indonesia is holding a training workshop in Jakarta on 9-11 June 2006 to give journalists tips on how to improve coverage of conflicts.

Supported by the European Commission under the "Media for Democracy in Indonesia" initiative, the workshop aims to introduce journalists to AJI's Conflict Reporting Guidelines and to give participants tools for applying these guidelines when covering sensitive issues.

The workshop is the fourth conducted by AJI in the country so far, following training sessions in the cities of Palu, Malang and Medan from 2 to 4 June.

AJI will use the workshops to campaign on its Conflict Reporting Guidelines, which were adopted by Indonesian journalists in April 2005 at a National Summit on Conflict Conscious Journalism, organised by AJI and the International Federation of Journalists.
