RORY PECK TRUST AWARDS

The Rory Peck Trust invites freelance camera operators around the world to submit entries for the 2006 Rory Peck Awards. Issued annually, the awards recognise excellence in covering the news, especially in regions where it is difficult to work as a freelancer.

There are four award categories: best humanitarian footage; best hard news story; best feature; and outstanding services to the freelance journalism community.

In all categories, the awards jury will look for initiative in camerawork and concept; journalistic ability and integrity (including research and preparation); and the circumstances and conditions under which the footage was shot.

To be eligible to enter the awards, applicants must be self-employed camera operators who regularly work for more than one employer but are not permanently employed. Submissions must include work that has been broadcast by news media between 1 August 2005 and 31 July 2006.

The deadline for submitting entries is 1 September 2006.
