IPS COMMUNICATION FOUNDATION TO HOST ALTERNATIVE MEDIA CONFERENCE IN ISTANBUL

The IPS Communication Foundation (BIANET) will host the Istanbul International Independent Media Forum from 3 to 5 November 2006 at the Dolapdere Campus of Istanbul's Bilgi University.

The three-day event aims to bring together independent media professionals, students, workers, academics, activists, and others from across the globe who "strive for an independent and democratic communication environment" and work to make "another communication possible".

Goals include: sharing experiences in creating independent media; helping develop more open, democratic, transparent and accessible media environments; and encouraging cooperation among global, regional and local alternative media networks.

BIANET is organising the forum in cooperation with the InterPress Service (http://www.ipsnews.net/) and with a grant from European Union's "European Initiative for Human Rights and Democracy Program."

For further information, contact Ehan Ustundag, IPS Communication Foundation Forum Coordinator, at erhan@bianet.org or Ertuğrul Kürkçü IPS Secretary General, at kurkcu@bianet.org, or visit http://forum.bianet.org/index/english/index2.php.
