CNN MULTICHOICE AFRICAN JOURNALIST AWARDS

African journalists are encouraged to apply for the 2007 CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards, which aim to reinforce the importance of the journalist's role in Africa and to recognise and develop journalistic talent.

Now in its 12th year, the competition is open to professional journalists (including freelancers) who work in print, television, radio, online and photography for African media organisations. There are 16 award categories.

Finalists of the competition will attend an all expenses paid programme in Cape Town, South Africa in July 2007 that will include an awards ceremony, workshops and media forums. Each prize winner will receive a substantial cash prize and laptop, modem and printer. The grand prize winner has the opportunity to go to CNN's headquarters in Atlanta.

Applicants may submit their entries in English, French or Portuguese. The closing date for entries is 21 February 2007.
