IWMF COURAGE IN JOURNALISM AWARDS
The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) is seeking nominations from around the world for its 2007 Courage in Journalism Awards and Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Courage in Journalism Awards honour women working in the news media who have demonstrated extraordinary strength of character in pursuing their profession under difficult or dangerous circumstances. Three prizes are awarded in this category.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises a woman journalist who has a pioneering spirit, demonstrates a strong commitment to press freedom and whose determination has paved the way for future generations of women in the media.
The winners will be presented with awards at ceremonies in October and November 2007 in New York City and Los Angeles. They will spend approximately two weeks in the United States as IWMF guests, making appearances at various events and participating in media interviews. Each awardee will receive a cash award of at least US$5,000.
For both awards, candidates can be full-time, part-time or freelance women journalists working in print, broadcast or online media in any country. For the Courage Awards, candidates employed by organisations whose main objective is not journalism will not be considered. Candidates for the Lifetime Achievement Award can be retired journalists.
The deadline for nominations is 15 March 2007.
