ROGER BALDWIN AWARD FOR INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS

The U.S.-based organisation Human Rights First is currently accepting nominations for the Roger N. Baldwin Medal of Liberty Award for International Human Rights Defenders. The bi-annual award honours individuals or organisations around the world that have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to international human rights advocacy.

The award jury will be looking for nominees whose human rights activism is unique in their country and which has been effective in advancing human rights locally or internationally.

It will also pay attention to nominees who face risk or insecurity as a result of their activism and who would benefit significantly from receiving the award.

The winner of the award will receive a US$25,000 prize at a ceremony in New York in spring 2007.

Nominations must be in English and are due no later than 9 March 2007.

The Roger Baldwin Medal of Liberty Award is named after the principal founder of the American Civil Liberties Union and the International League for Human Rights.
