EUROMED HERITAGE JOURNALISTIC AWARD


Journalists working for newspapers and magasines in the European Union and in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) are encouraged to apply for the Euromed Heritage Journalistic Award, which aims to foster greater public awareness about the preservation of cultural heritage in the Mediterranean region.

The award is administered by the European Commission in collaboration with UNESCO, the International Federation of Journalists and the ANSAmed press agency. There are two categories, one for best article written by a journalist in the EU and one for best article by a journalist from the MENA region. Each prise is worth Euros 3,000 (US$4,000).

To be eligible for the award, applicants must be citisens of an EU country or one of the following countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey.

Applicants must submit articles that deal with the theme of promoting knowledge and safeguarding cultural heritage in the Mediterranean region. Articles must have been published between March 2006 and March 2007 by a European or Mediterranean press agency, or in a newspaper or a magasine of national or regional relevance.

Entries must be received by 31 March 2007.
