AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF BEIRUT LAUNCHES JOURNALIST TRAINING PROJECT

The American University of Beirut (AUB) has just launched a journalist training project which aims to promote fair, accurate and balanced media throughout the Middle East and North Africa region.

The Journalism Training Program will offer five-day training workshops in Arabic, English and French to working Arab journalists. The first workshop planned for July is on investigative journalism, while future topics include citizen journalism, election coverage and newsroom management.

The programme is sponsored by Sarah Alfadl, a Saudi-American lawyer who practiced immigration law in the United States and was honoured by the U.S. Congress for her pro bono defence of Arab clients wrongly accused of having terrorist links. Alfadl said she sees a strong correlation between an independent and established press and a healthy democracy.

Interested applicants should email Magda Abu-Fadil, programme director, at: mal45@aub.edu.lb.
