HUNGARY TO HOST SUMMIT ON CITIZEN MEDIA

Attention all journalists, bloggers and technophiles! Internet advocacy group Global Voices Online is hosting a two-day media summit in Hungary on 27-28 June to share information on what's happening in citizen media.

The 2008 summit will explore the theme of "Citizen Media and Citizenhood", and address issues surrounding the actual and potential role of citizen media producers in public life. All summit sessions are open to the public.

The first day of the conference will be devoted to discussing the challenges facing freedom of expression online. The second day will explore applications of citizen media and online social networking tools in situations from election campaigns and disaster relief to community building and empowerment. It will also address the issue of multilingualism on the Internet. A hands-on workshop will help build activism tools using free, web-based services such as Google Maps, Twitter, SMS services and online video.

This year, Global Voices is partnering with Média Hungária to hold the summit in Budapest.
