TAKE ACTION! OCTOBER DAY AGAINST "SURVEILLANCE MANIA"

The German civil rights coalition AK Vorrat (Working Group on Data Retention) is organising an international action day against excessive surveillance on 11 October 2008. Under the banner "Freedom not fear - Stop the surveillance mania!" AK Vorrat says two dozen peaceful actions, from protest marches to parties, will take place in capital cities in Europe and beyond.

"Governments and businesses register, monitor and control our behaviour ever more thoroughly," a posted statement says. "The resulting lack of privacy and confidentiality is putting at risk the freedom of confession, the freedom of speech as well as the work of doctors, helplines, lawyers and journalists."
