MALAWI JOURNALISTS WIN 2008 JOHN MANYARARA AWARD


Two journalists from Malawi have been named the winners of this year's John Manyarara Investigative Journalism Award in South Africa, organised by the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA).

Charles Mpaka and Mike Chipalasa, journalists for Malawi's "The Daily Times", won for their impressive coverage of the selling of Malawi School Certificate of Education exams, which led to the arrest of some examination board officials.

Conceição Vitorino was awarded the Upcoming Investigative Journalist of the Year award for a series of stories she wrote on public health for "Canal de Mozambique".
