Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) has announced a new fellowship based at the University of Toronto for established Latin American journalists looking to promote a strong and free media in their home country.

The Scotiabank/CJFE Journalism Fellowship is a one-semester fellowship, hosted by Massey College in the University of Toronto, for qualified Latin American journalists from a Spanish-speaking country to study courses of their choice with a free expression perspective and make connections with the Canadian media. Fellows are expected to apply their learnings upon returning to work in their countries.

"With a focus on free expression, the Scotiabank/CJFE Journalism Fellowship at Massey College will help to promote awareness among people in Latin America and in Canada, of the many difficult challenges facing journalists today in Latin America and around the world," said CJFE.

The deadline for applications is 1 March. For more information, contact Julie Payne, CJFE manager, at: jpayne (@) cjfe.org or see: http://www.cjfe.org/releases/2008/09122008fellowship.html
