Burma

Burmese democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi was taken from her home last week and put in Insein Prison on a charge of breaching the conditions of her house arrest order. ARTICLE 19 and Human Rights Watch are demanding that the international community pressure the Burmese military government not to continue Suu Kyi's 13-year detention.
Kenya

Following a concerted campaign, the Kenyan government has published amendments to the Communications Act, which will delete a controversial clause that allows the government to raid broadcasting stations, report the Africa Free Media Foundation, the Media Institute and local news reports.
Syria

Journalist Michel Kilo was released from prison last week after completing a three-year prison sentence, but was immediately detained for five days, reports Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
Tunisia

The Tunisian government is trying to undermine the journalists' union, just one tactic in its ongoing campaign to silence independent media, say the IFEX Tunisia Monitoring Group (TMG) and other IFEX members.
Cuba
A Cuban journalist has been sentenced to three years in jail on charges of "disrespect for authority," report the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), the Writers in Prison Committee of International PEN (WiPC), the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) and Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
Pakistan
The Kyber Union of Journalists and Reporters Without Borders (RSF) are appealing to fellow media and press freedom organisations to raise emergency funds for Pakistan's journalists who have fled Swat Valley.
Azerbaijan
Azerbaijani organisations the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS) and the Media Rights Institute have set up a 24-hour hotline for journalists and media groups in distress, especially those facing court cases or criminal defamation suits.
