Tunisia
As the Tunisian government prepares for October's presidential elections, authorities are employing both old and new tactics in an all-out intimidation campaign against journalists and rights defenders, say members of the Tunisia Monitoring Group (TMG) and other IFEX members.
Chechnya (Russia)

Natalia Estemirova, an award-winning activist and journalist dedicated to exposing the human rights abuses of Russian authorities and security forces in Chechnya, was brazenly abducted and shot to death last week. The assassination was reported on by the Center for Journalism in Extreme Situations (CJES) Human Rights Watch (HRW), the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and several other IFEX members.
Sri Lanka
The long war between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) ended when the government declared victory this past May, but the assault on journalists in the country continues, according to the International Press Freedom Mission to Sri Lanka.
Cambodia
Freedom of expression is under attack in Cambodia, with government officials increasingly getting away with misusing criminal defamation, disinformation and incitement laws to crack down on critics, say the Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA), SEAPA partners, and Human Rights Watch.
Mexico
Two Mexican journalists were murdered last week, with motives still unknown, report the Inter American Press Association (IAPA), Writers in Prison Committee of International PEN (WiPC) and Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
Iran
