(BCHR/IFEX) - October 14, 2011 - The Bahrain Center for Human Rights expresses concern over the ongoing practices of the Bahraini authorities in the campaign against media professionals, journalists, photographers and practitioners of freedom of expression. After months of being subjected to campaigns of arrest, dismissal from their work, and torture in detention centers since February and March, more recently, many of them have began receiving summons to appear before the judiciary in the criminal courts and are in danger of facing imprisonment if convicted. This is a move aimed directly at criminalizing their exercise of the fundamental right to freedom of expression which is guaranteed by human rights charters.
