(IPYS/IFEX) - On 5 April 2009, radio station Gaúcha journalist Rodrigo Oliveira was threatened by military police and prevented from doing his work while he was covering a football game between Gremio and Internacional teams in the Porto Alegre sports stadium, in southern Brazil.

Oliveira was broadcasting live information about the game via his telephone when he saw that six policemen attacked a Gremio fan and reported the incident. Three unidentified policemen immediately threatened the journalist and stopped him from following a group of fans as they left the grounds.

The military police chief, Lieutenant Colonel Cilanus Melo, said that he was surprised to hear what had happened and that those responsible would be identified and investigated.
