CORRESPONDENT IN BURMA WINS 2008 COURAGE AWARD

The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) has announced that Aye Aye Win, an Associated Press correspondent in Burma, will receive a 2008 Courage in Journalism Award.

One of the few women journalists in military-ruled Burma, Win faces difficult conditions. Plainclothes police or military intelligence agents monitor her movements, watch her house, and often tap her telephone. "Still, she risks her own safety to report," IWMF stated.

Win will receive her award with three other women previously announced at presentations in Los Angeles on 16 October and New York on 21 October.
