(RSF/IFEX) - A Paris high court has dismissed an appeal brought by Chinese-language New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) against the termination of its contract by satellite provider Eutelsat. A lawyer for the station said he was determined to continue the fight.

At the 16 March 2005 hearing, Eutelsat lawyer Jean-Michel Leprêtre denied there had been any pressure from the Chinese government to end the contract, saying that the termination of NTDTV broadcasts was due to financial concerns. In response, NTDTV's lawyer presented the judge with a copy of a letter to Eutelsat from the Chinese authorities demanding an end to the station's programmes.

The judge did, however, agree to RSF's request to be a party to the NTDTV case.
