Internet writer Kunchok Tsephel Gopey Tsang detained without charges

(WiPC/IFEX) - The Writers in Prison Committee (WiPC) of International PEN is seriously concerned about the detention of Kunchok Tsephel Gopey Tsang, a Tibetan internet writer, who has reportedly been held without charge since 26 February 2009. The WiPC fears that Kunchok Tsephel Gopey Tsang may be held for his online writings, and if so, calls for his immediate and unconditional release in accordance with Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which China is a signatory.

Washu is also a singer and the author of two books on Tibetan culture.

Two Tibetan documentary filmmakers held for past six months

Two more foreign journalists expelled from Tibet; Internet users threatened with sanctions

(RSF/IFEX) - Reporters Without Borders condemned the expulsion from Lhasa of German journalist, Georg Blume, of the dailies "Die Zeit" and "Taz", and Kristin Kupfer, correspondent for the Austrian magazine "Profil" and the EPD news agency on 20 March 2008. "A top official threatened to cancel our visas for China", Blume told the German news agency DPA. They were forced to leave Tibet by train, after holding out for five days against insistent police demands to go. The same week, the correspondent for "The Economist", James Milles, and a group of around 15 reporters from Hong Kong were forced out of Lhasa.

(WiPC/IFEX) - WiPC is seriously concerned about reports that Tibetan monk and writer Venerable Rinchen Sangpo has been subject to harassment and ill treatment by the authorities since August 2006, when he was released from one month's detention without charge. PEN is seriously concerned that Rinchen Sangpo appears to be targeted for his critical writings, and calls on the authorities to ensure his right to free expression in accordance with Article 19 of the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which China is a signatory.

(WiPC/IFEX) - WiPC is seriously concerned for the health of teacher and writer Dolma Kyab (aka Lobsang Kelsang Gyatso), whose health is said to have deteriorated in detention. International PEN believes Dolma Kyab, who is serving a 10-year sentence for his writings, is held in violation of his rights to freedom of expression as guaranteed under Article 19 of the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which China is a signatory, and is calling for his immediate and unconditional release. PEN is also seeking assurances that he is receiving all necessary medical care.

Health concerns mount for teacher and writer Dolma Kyab, serving a ten-year sentence

(WiPC/IFEX) - The Writers in Prison Committee of International PEN protests the detention of teacher and writer Dolma Kyab (pen-name Lobsang Kelsang Gyatso), who has been detained since 9 March 2005 and is serving a ten-year prison sentence for his critical writings. International PEN calls for his immediate and unconditional release in accordance with Article 19 of the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which China is a signatory. PEN seeks information about his health and assurances that he is receiving all necessary medical care following reports that he contracted tuberculosis whilst in pre-trial detention.
