(IPYS/IFEX) - On 12 July 2002, the Radio RCN and Radio Caracol stations reported that their four employees, two technicians and two drivers, who were kidnapped on 8 July were released.

Oscar González and Henry Pineda, of Radio Caracol, and Luis Eduardo Perdomo and José Azael Rodríguez, of Radio RCN, were released on 11 July, at approximately 4:00 p.m. (local time), near the Salento municipality, in the department of Quindío, about 60 kilometres from Tapias where they had been kidnapped. However, the kidnappers did not return the two radio stations' vehicles and transmission equipment.

The media workers told national media that their captors were wearing army fatigues and were heavily armed. At no point, did the kidnappers specify if they were members of an armed group.

The four stated that they were not mistreated but were forced to walk long distances, particularly at night.
