(JED/IFEX) - On 19 August 2010, Pascal Mulunda, journalist and publisher of "Le Monitor", a Kinshasa-based private weekly, was released on bail after paying US$600 to the Kinshasa/Gombe District Court.

Mulunda's lawyer, Joel Awenze Kaloume, told JED that his client must present himself to the court every Tuesday and Friday and is prohibited from leaving Kinshasa before his case comes to a close.

Mulunda was arrested on 26 July and transferred the following day to the Central Prison and Rehabilitation Centre of Kinshasa (CPRK). He is accused of "defamation" against Baudouin Iheta, coordinator of the Public Service Support for Small Scale Mining (Service public d'Assistance et d'Encadrement du Small Scale Mining, SAESSCAM), a service of the Mining Ministry.
