The 9th annual Internet Governance Forum will be held in Istanbul from 2 to 5 September. Reporters Without Borders will be there to denounce the increasing violations of freedom of information in Turkey and to argue that respect for this freedom should be at the heart of any Internet governance model.

Prominent Vietnamese blogger, two other activists, receive prison sentences

The Vietnamese authorities displayed their warped sense of justice again when a people's court sentenced blogger and pro-democracy activist Bui Thi Minh Hang to three years in prison at the end of a summary trial that violated defence rights. Two other activists who were tried with her were given jail terms of 30 and 24 months respectively.
