AMARC AFRICA TO HOLD REGIONAL CONFERENCE IN KENYA

The Africa regional office of the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) will be holding its triennial Pan African Conference in April 2005 in Nairobi, Kenya, to develop strategic plans and activities in support of community radio development in the region.

More than 160 participants are expected to attend the conference, which will be held from 18 to 22 April 2005.

The theme of the conference will be "Content and Sustainable Development of Community Radio in Africa." For many rural communities in Africa, radio is the most popular and easily accessible means of communication and information dissemination, says AMARC.

The organisation argues that because community radio has established a role for itself in the development process, efforts need to be made to develop and strengthen this role.

At the conference, participants will discuss and make recommendations for AMARC Africa's three-year strategic plan, propose new initiatives and projects, and vote for new board members.

AMARC Africa has more than 360 members across the continent.
